Swinging instrumental jazz in the Nat King Cole tradition.
With Billy Test on Piano, Adam Lomeo on Guitar, and
Sam Trapchack on Bass, the group has an
all acoustic “strings” sound which is rarely
heard in modern jazz. The Rum Runners
came together while the members were
studying with Mulgrew Miller at William
Paterson University. While the group sets
out to achieve that carefree feeling of
old-school swing, the members are all
thoroughly modern NYC jazz players. This
band is not an imitation of a bygone era,
but three exciting musicians in their early
twenties carrying on a dialogue with an era
when Jazz was America’s most popular
music. With this in mind, the Rum Runners
devote a slice of their repertoire to popular
songs which almost any modern listener
will be familiar with.
