Loew's: Pee-wee's Big Adventure
"Tim Burton made his feature-length directorial debut with this film, and immediately established what would become his trademark quirky style. The film has a look reminiscent of German expressionist movies of the 1920s, filtered through a pop-art sensibility of cartoons, horror serials and Gothic fairy tales. The result is a surreal, mystical world, yet one very close to our own – that perfectly fits the absurdist humor. And the score by Danny Elfman is terrific. In all, Pee wee's Big Adventure is a delightful film, enjoyable for children as well as adults."
Starring Paul Reubens, Elizabeth Daily, Mark Holton, Diane Salinger. Directed by Tim Burton.
(1985, 90mins, Color. Original Rating: PG)

The Landmark Loew's Jersey: Raging Bull
"When Raging Bull opened, it under-performed at the box office as audiences and critics were initially repulsed by its protagonist. Yet the story of a lost soul struggling for a way out of the emotional damnation of his own brutal nature is so compelling, and is told with such a profound mix of unblinking horror and understated compassion that Raging Bull is now widely acclaimed as one of the best American films of the 1980s."
Starring Robert De Niro, Cathy Moriarty, Joe Pesci, Frank Vincent, Nicholas Colasanto. Directed by Martin Scorsese.
(1980, 128mins., B&W and Color. Original Rating: R)

Soulful Sunday w/ DJ Serenade
Soulful Sundays, one of our very first weekly events was a free pot luck style gathering for the community. People ate, laughed, and danced to the sounds of DJ Serenade & guests. It was unfortunate when it ended, and have missed it ever since.
On Sunday, June 6th 3-8pm, we are bringing Soulful Sunday back!
We invite you to join us. Sirena & Chelo will be leading the DRUM CIRCLE so bring your drums, shakers, or instrument of choice! Poets welcomed, we will have a mic for you to do your thing to the beat of the drums!

We've had a pretty good run over the last three years.
BabyHole, Jersey City's longest running comedy show has had venues shut down, been raided, and enforced restraining orders. And then there was the comedy.
Let's see what we can do on our last night. Maybe we'll finally have a knife fight.

In the 1980’s the Friedmans, a middle-class family on Long Island, became the focus of a series of horrendous child-abuse charges. While the case grew both in magnitude of allegation as well as nation-wide coverage, the oldest son secretly turned his home movie camera on his family, documenting their ordeal from within. Combining modern interviews with archived news reels and candid home footage, award-winning director Andrew Jarecki explores the elusive nature of truth when retold through the lens of multiple peoples’ memory.
Come see why Capturing The Friedmans won 12 Best Documentary awards in 2003, including the New York Film Critics Circle.
