JCAS presents “Operation Homecoming: Writing The Wartime Experience” (2007)
May 22, 7.30 - 10.30, 326 5th street
In 2004 the National Endowment for the Arts created the program Operation Homecoming to help U.S. troops and their families write about their wartime experiences. Through this program, distinguished American writers conducted workshops at military installations and veterans’ centers which, combined with an open call for submissions, resulted in 12,000 pa...ges of contemporary wartime writing.
Director Richard E. Robbins’ Oscar-nominated 2007 documentary “Operation Homecoming: Writing The Wartime Experience” brings a selection of these writings to life as a series of short films and animations using the voice talents of Robert Duvall, Beau Bridges, Blair Underwood, and Aaron Eckhart. Paired with interviews of servicemembers, and participating authors Anthony Swofford, James Salter and Tobias Wolff, “Operation Homecoming” provides a deeply personal view of the American experience in modern conflict.
