shakespeare in the park, park(ing) day

For any Shakespeare and/or open space fans--
The Hudson TMA is hosting International Park(ing) Day in Jersey City.

On Friday, September 17, 2010 from 11 am to 4 pm two parking spaces on Town Square Place (Pavonia Avenue) just off Washington Boulevard in the Newport area of Jersey City will be converted to a park. Our theme this year is “Shakespeare in the Park.” Come support us and enjoy seeing players in Elizabethan costumes from the Actors Shakespeare Company of New Jersey City University perform scenes from various plays of Shakespeare.

All the World’s a Stage –

We hope that a little drama and a rapier fight will bring some attention and give people the opportunity to think about the amount of land currently used for parking that could be devoted to other purposes such as parks. That is the message of Park(ing) Day.

“In urban centers around the world, curbside parking results in increased traffic, wasted fuel and more pollution,” says Rebar’s Matthew
Passmore, the originator of Park(ing) Day. “The strategies that generated these conditions are not sustainable, nor do they promote a healthy, vibrant human habitat. PARK(ing) Day is about re-imagining
the possibilities of the urban landscape.”
Please spread the word and
come visit as Jersey City
will again join 140 other
cities in 21 countries
inspiring city dwellers to
transform metered
parking into temporary
parks for the public good.
