digital photomontage lecture Hoboken museum

LECTURE: CREATING A DIGITAL PHOTOMONTAGE
HOBOKEN FROM AFAR: Digital Photomontages by Roslyn Rose
November 4, 4pm
HOBOKEN HISTORICAL MUSEUM
1301 Hudson Street
Hoboken, NJ 07030
Roslyn Rose will offer a free lecture on using the Photoshop program to create of Photomontages like the ones in her exhibition, Hoboken From Afar, currently in the Upper Gallery at the Hoboken Historical Museum, 1301 Hudson Street, Hoboken. The show will continue until November 4th when Ms. Rose will present a lecture about her art and the exhibit at 4pm. During the lecture Rose will display images of work depicting the additions, subtractions, and adjustments used to compose a digital collage and explain each tool needed to create the final image.  Questions from the audience will be encouraged.

Sometimes you have to get away, far away, to see your hometown from a fresh perspective or you can view Hoboken From Afar.  A longtime Hoboken resident, Rose credits her travels for these latest artworks. The foregrounds of the photomontages are her photographs and found images collected during her journeys, which have been digitally superimposed over familiar Hoboken scenes.
Additional information can be obtained at www.roslynrose.com and www.hobokenmuseum.org or by contacting the artist at rrose@roslynrose.com. This exhibition is made possible by a Block Grant from the State/County Partnership program for the Arts.

Be A Part Of The Show!
Friends of the Loew's Event Volunteers do everything from selling the tickets to making the popcorn to showing patrons to their seats and cleaning up the theatre afterwards. If you are interested in joining us this weekend or at any other event this season, email us at loewsjersey@gmail.com or call us at (201) 798-6055.

There will be an especially warm sense of camaraderie for those who help us in making sure the show does go on this weekend. As always, volunteers can bring a guest to help, pick a complimentary selection from our concession stand, and after the crowd is in and the film begins, they can enjoy the show. We do ask, however, that volunteers stay 30-40 minutes after the final show the help us clean up.

Create your craziest costume ever and come on out to the hob'art Gallery, Gallery E 208, The Monroe Center for the Arts, 720 Monroe Street, Hoboken, NJ. For a $3.00 donation at the door, hob'art will provide all creepy, crawly costumed and un-costumed guests with food, wine and live music by the world renowned Jim Pellegrino Jazz Trio (known to have played with Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, and Jimmy Heath).

Party goers will also be able to bid in our first silent auction. The hob'art artists are donating 9X9 original artworks to be auctioned in a "Square Show" during this event. The auction proceeds will enable hob'art to continue having high quality art exhibitions, art classes, workshops, lectures, and discussion groups.

Just in time for the Halloween Party, hob'art gallery will sponsor a mask making class on October 25, starting at 6:30pm with Erik Attia to help each participant apply their creativity to the making of a Venetian-style mask. Using the age old techniques of the Italian ‘Mascherari,’ the mask makers, Attia will show you how he creates masks for the Cirque du Soleil and other famous clientele. A nominal fee of $30 includes a blank papier-mâché mask base, paints and assorted ribbons and feathers. All you need to bring is a paintbrush and your imagination! winter wonderland call for art

Winter Wonderland Weekend this December as part of the JC friday planned for December 7th.
submit:
Last year id asked for only jersey city pictures, but this year i want people to just go wild!....photos, paintings, collage,
sculpture and crafts all revolving around winter, the spirit of the holidays and the closing of the old year and
the welcoming of the new one.  Be creative and be enthusiastic; the feel of the event last year really warmed
my heart after a year of ups and downs and i love being able to spend time with the folks in my community
this way and invite you to my home to share some holiday cheer before the season gets so busy : )

I will have to submit all the info to Art House productions by October 25th in order to be listed in the pamphlet
for the December 7th JC Friday events, so please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to participate.
I won't need to have your work in-hand until Friday November 30th, so that is the official due date, but if you'd
like your name potentially included in the JC Friday materials, i must know by October 25th.

I am hoping to make something special myself to include as part of the show!

As we did last year there will be a childrens toy drive bin for a local pre-school program on Ocean Avenue and
a raffle to win prizes from local Greenville businesses as well as seasonal snacks to enjoy with each other!

JC Land o f the Freeform arts and music festival

First annual "Jersey City- Land of the Freeform Arts and Music Festival" is a celebration of the artistic community in the area. It represents the cultural diversity and creativity that thrives locally. The sponsor, Peace by Piece Studio, is a local organization who is giving back to the community through various events such as this. The area the festival is taking place was designated as the Riverview Arts District, but was never codified in the zoning department. This festival will bring light to the...
city and neighborhood that many talented artists and musicians live and support this area.

From noon to 2 pm there will be a bluegrass jam. Feel free to bring your own acoustic instruments to join in on the jam.

Binary Dreams/ Flux
“Binary Dreams” brings forth a fusion of the technical brain and the intuitive in the form of new innovative arts that depict the vast and transpersonal experiences of dreams. With the advent of new technology emerging and novelty dropping new seeds constantly into the oceans of the mind, the abstractions of dreaming are constantly fractalling out into an explosion of new diverse realities that become available for exploration when one abandons the senses to sleep and plunges inwards. Vincent Zambrano and Kaliptus are bringing back the raw dream elements and translating them out into the mundane world. The art works themselves vary in style and medium but work together like a perfect blend of opposite dualities. They create an overall effect of wholeness, diversity and surreal futurism.
artists:
Vincent Zambrano(JC), Kaliptus(Harrison NJ)
curator: Veronica Santi, (Florence Italy)

Dimensional Portraits

Multidimensional portraits, created with paintings, literary quotes, video animation and music.
The viewer enters an experience about a person, a visual literary encounter.
artist: Fermin Mendoza (JC native, Morris county)
curator: Uta Brauser

Abstract geometry
Peter Bill's abstract geometric forms with his life-long devotion to color theory involves
painstakingly rendered stripes and shapes, by hand, with perfected skill.
The summary of shapes creates a trompe l'oeuil three dimensionality.
artist: Peter Bill (JC)
curator: Uta Brauser

Unpolitically correct characters exploiting themselves
The underground Urban characters of androgenous, colorful, queer and love for life creatures
are Stephanie's observations of a New Yorker upbringing and life style.
artist and curator: Stephanie Riggi (JC)

Abstractions
The artist uses a technique called video performance painting. First video images are projected onto a blank canvas.
Next the artist begins painting the moving video images. Each brush stroke creates a different visual layer for the viewer.
The viewers are not only seeing the projections they are seeing the paint create a different image all together.
Olivia's  paintings  are the out come of this visual layering process.
Performances are scheduled    saturday at 4 pm, sunday at 7pm
artist, curator: Olivia Wilber (JC)

Spanking machine
The multidimensional experience of observing and/or physically immersing into the depth of pain
or physical intensity combined with the social aspect of the public's presence  will make this display
unforgettable.
artist, curator: Uta Brauser (JC)

Becoming Visible
The linear patterns in Becoming Visible were inspired by wood carvings and bronze statues from Benin, West Africa.
Many of these works depict the king or "Oba" of Benin with contours of his face.Traditionally some ethnic groups used these lines
to identify each other after they had been separated.
In this case I place the lines on an image of my own face to express empathy for the families of innocent African American men whose lives
were taken unjustly.
artist, curator: Eto Otitigbe (NYC)

Cold in the Sun

"is a new media piece on reflections with my father's progressing dementia. "cold in the sun" was one of the phrases
I would find him mumbling to himself.
In this video  I reenact some of the phrases my father would mumble while sitting
around the house as if they were a series
of flashbacks.
Through the use of Delaunay Triangulation the video gradually abstracts itself as my father gets
deeper into his memories.
Delaunay Triangulation is a method of computational geometry that can be used to model
complex surfaces without having to measure the exact dimensions of all surface points.
It is typically used to model terrains where only some points of altitude are known.

In this case I assume the role of my father and attempt to reenact some of his mannerisms.
Although I did not know much about him I have a few data points form which to model his behavior."
artist, curator: Eto Otitigbe (NYC)

so-low theater festival

SO LOW Theater Festival

Date: Thursday, September 27, 2012 To Sunday, September 30, 2012
Time: 7pm
Cost: $6 per show

A full weekend of original one-person shows! Styles range from memoir to multimedia to dance!

You Gotta Have Faith (or We'll Disown You)
A hilarious, honest and provocative account of what it's like to be an atheist in a very Catholic family. Part coming of age tale, part social commentary, this deeply personal show is a journey through religion, family and faith--with surprising revelations.

Kookspeak
Delightful death fantasies, gravely serious hand-puppet conversations, the Most Annoying Girl in the World voice and performing at the Grammy's with your true love, a FIFA World Cup star/YouTube phenomenon -- it's all fun in this series of monologues from the mouths of people who live inside their heads.

Hurricane Alana
Floods and carbon monoxide and missing kitties, oh my. There's no place like home. With the help of the hugging lady from India, a creepy astrologer, drug dealer Lewie, and a feng shui specialist, Hurricane Alana is a funny and touching story about a girl's search for love, a home and a good mold specialist.

Musical Theater for Asian Males (Only Edition)
From the debate of Miss Saigon to the death of Danny Chen, one Asian man looks at the role of his race in theater, media, and society.

RUDE
Urban Legend Breaks The Stage. Champion Slam Poet and Bay Area Hip Hop legend Azeem presents his One Man Show at the 2012 SO LOW Theater Festival

Going to America
A Welsh boy immigrating to the fantasy of a new life experiences the journey we all take from childhood to adolescence. It is 1954 when passenger steamers ruled the sea and America was the Promised Land.
