a mysterious Dj will offer surprise tunes,

The participatory art project this week is a wheatpaste paper sculpture,

building up layers of paper and fabrics on a cardboard manniquin.

The results are always different from anything anyone can visualize due to the multitude of

participants.

The technique of how to apply wheatpaste with layers of paper 

allows the thought process of building up layer by layer to sink in,

develop interesting projects and / or masks and costumes.

winter wonderland at Project Greenville call for art

Happy Autumn to Everyone,

Most of Jersey City is now covered in red and yellow leaves and Columbia Park right down our street is looking beautiful in crisp fall colors! And while this is my favorite season, I am writing looking ahead to the wintertime in the hopes that, despite my late communication regarding our latest open call, some of you will participate in and attend our 3rd Annual Winter Wonderland Weekend! This years group exhibit and festivities will take place Friday Saturday and Sunday December 6th, 7th and 8th, from 5-8pm each day. Deadline for entries is November 29th (but I 'm flexible for those who may need slightly more time : ) and we are looking for your art, photos, collages, drawings, paintings, crafts and other creative endevours that depict or invoke your feelings and imagery of Jersey City during the winter/holidays/new year. Along with the group art exhibit there will be the usual array of snacks from nearby businesses, a children's toy drive bin (bring a new or extremely gently used unwrapped toy to add to the donation!) and neighborhood raffle featuring prizes from local merchants. We are also working on scheduling some great live performances to add to each evening! This year's BIG DIG on Saturday, October 26th will focus on Jersey City's public housing communities. With your help the JCPC(Jersey City Parks Coalition)

_gaia is accepting submissions for an all woman group art exhibition titled “And that is why I hate love letters” opening November 4th, 2013 at City Hall Jersey City curated by Doris Cacoilo and Lillian Ribeiro.

What is an heirloom? Family treasures and stories link generations in a deep and personal way. What do we inherit from our ancestors? Parents? What are the legacies left to heirs? Family customs. Choices we make. The life we choose to live.

All media will be considered. Large 2-dimesional media is especially requested. The theme is open to interpretation. We hope this exhibition will serve to promote local women artists, bring women artists together in one amazing space, create dialogue and promote awareness and advocacy of women’s issues.

Art surge, processing Sandy through an art procession

  A year after Hurricane Sandy flooded the streets of Jersey City and blacked out many of our homes for more than two weeks, Art Surge seeks to ritually reclaim our city using art, music and theater.

  At 2 pm on Nov 17th, Art Surge will take to the streets with a celebratory procession, mapping a path through the flood zones and interacting with works of art along the way. The procession will begin in Hamilton Park and continue to Liberty State Park over the next 60 to 90 minutes. The community is invited to join the procession anywhere along the route.

  How We Are Making the Art:

  Art Surge is a two phase project: Phase One involves Jersey City residents in a series of story circles exploring themes that emerge from the storm. The story circles and other artistic reflections are an opportunity for participants to share individual stories and connect as a Jersey City community. These stories will be woven into works of music, theater, and physical art by the assembled group.

  Story circles will take place: - Sunday October 27, 2-4:30 PM - Sunday, November 3, 2-4:30 PM - Sunday, November 10, 2-4:30 PM

  Story circles will take place in a studio space at 225 Montgomery St buzzer 1.

  Phase Two: On Nov 17th, Art Surge will take to the streets with a celebratory procession, mapping a path through the flood zones and interacting with works of art along the way. The procession will end in Liberty State Park with kite flying and other activities that celebrate the natural world and the creative spirit of Jersey City.

  The procession will begin at approximately 2:00pm in Hamilton Park and continue to Liberty State Park over the next 60 to 90 minutes. The community is invited to join the procession anywhere along the route.

  How you can get involved:

  - Come to a story circle! Here we will share our experiences and make meaning from our collective history using theater, song, and art to help us. In these circles we will mine our collective culture and create rituals of reclamation to celebrate the lives we're living here in JC.

  - Yvonne & Olivia are seeking artists to help them create short performance installations and portable or biodegradable works of art for the procession. Artist should contact Olivia o.a.harris@gmail.com.

  - We are also seeking volunteers to help us along the route by sharing maps, information, and handing out water. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.

Art House's 13th season is off to an exciting start, with poet Lana Rose Diaz of Wordsmithing Wednesdays featuring at our first open mic of the season tomorrow at 8pm. Sign up for the open mic and get 5 minutes on stage.
