Call for art, "trios" Norm Kirby

This is an open call for an art show at city hall in Jersey City. I am looking for works of art that include three people and/or animals in one piece or three as a triptych. Drawings, paintings, photography, and sculpture will be considered. The deadline for submissions is Monday November 25. Once accepted, pieces need to be dropped off at city hall by Monday December 2nd. Artists receive 100% of sales.

Happy Autumn to Everyone,

Most of Jersey City is now covered in red and yellow leaves and Columbia Park right down our street is looking beautiful in crisp fall colors! And while this is my favorite season, I am writing looking ahead to the wintertime in the hopes that, despite my late communication regarding our latest open call, some of you will participate in and attend our 3rd Annual Winter Wonderland Weekend! This years group exhibit and festivities will take place Friday Saturday and Sunday December 6th, 7th and 8th, from 5-8pm each day. Deadline for entries is November 29th (but I 'm flexible for those who may need slightly more time : ) and we are looking for your art, photos, collages, drawings, paintings, crafts and other creative endevours that depict or invoke your feelings and imagery of Jersey City during the winter/holidays/new year. Along with the group art exhibit there will be the usual array of snacks from nearby businesses, a children's toy drive bin (bring a new or extremely gently used unwrapped toy to add to the donation!) and neighborhood raffle featuring prizes from local merchants. We are also working on scheduling some great live performances to add to each evening! _gaia is accepting submissions for an all woman group art exhibition titled “And that is why I hate love letters” opening November 4th, 2013 at City Hall Jersey City curated by Doris Cacoilo and Lillian Ribeiro.

What is an heirloom? Family treasures and stories link generations in a deep and personal way. What do we inherit from our ancestors? Parents? What are the legacies left to heirs? Family customs. Choices we make. The life we choose to live.

All media will be considered. Large 2-dimesional media is especially requested. The theme is open to interpretation. We hope this exhibition will serve to promote local women artists, bring women artists together in one amazing space, create dialogue and promote awareness and advocacy of women’s issues.

call for Greenville art, greenville project

Hope you have all been having a very good summer!  I'm excited to invite you to participate in our next group show which will be featured

during the September JC Fridays weekend (Sept 6th & 7th) as well as on display during the Jersey City Artists Studio Tour weekend (October

5th & 6th).

The theme of the show is simple:   I  GREENVILLE

We are seeking visual art of all styles (paintings, photographs, collage, drawings, sculpture etc) made by people living in Greenville

or depicting Greenville in some way.  So if you live (or lived) here you get free rein!  You have earned it and it will be my pleasure to

provide a space in the neighborhood to share and display your work pertaining to anything you like.  If you live in a different neighborhood but

would like to participate just make sure that your work somehow pertains to Greenville....use it as an excuse to visit and take pictures or make sketches,

learn more about our neighborhood at the library (we have a beautiful branch on Kennedy Blvd which also houses the Afro-American Historical Society Museum)

or online and create a collage or an essay or a timeline....or some other neat Greenville inspired projects : )

Also, in the hopes of adding another dimension to the mix, we are looking for MUSIC this time as well!  Bands, singer/song writers, poets

and rappers are encouraged to get in touch with me as I would love to schedule at least one audio element as a main event for each of the

days in question.  So if you are reading this and are involved with music, please write...either with a description of your own music or with

ideas on folks to contact who might be interested in performing.

As always there will be light refreshments from some of our nearby neighborhood businesses as well as a great exhibit to check out!

From a promotional point of view, any spreading of the word is much appreciated....post on your facebook page or tell your friends and

neighbors who might like to participate or come visit!  I will have flyers and postcards to hand out myself but to also share with any

of you who would be able to spread them around the city at local businesses, libraries, churches and other neighborhood spots for info.

And of course for those of you who participate to invite your friends and family with.

Speaking of which many of you have become MY friends (and my Jersey City Family : ) and I would love to be able to mail you a postcard,

with a stamp and everything, so please let me know your mailing address if you would enjoy receiving some old-fashion, tangible mail.

Hoping to create a nice map for the show with pushpins for people to show where in Greenville they either live, have lived or have

possibly depicted in their work, think it would be a neat interactive feature : )

Ideally it would be great to have everyone's work by August 31st, but as always I'd rather be flexible and have a great varied show

if people need a little extra time...just make arrangements with me.  But let's just say, for arguments sake, DEADLINE AUGUST 31ST.

This is a final special announcement for those artists within the New Jersey area.

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the annual JC Open Artists Studio Tour held at Art House Productions curated by Artmeme with artwork remaining on display for two weeks.

"Elements" is the theme and we are looking to combine an array of artists featuring original artworks in the form of: paintings (oil, water color, acrylic, etc.) drawings, mixed media, photography, graphic design, illustration, multimedia and demo art. Artists invite you to discover and view elements used such as: lines, shapes, form, space, texture, value and color. Bringing together various fundamentals creates a feeling of balance, understanding, peace and appreciation.

"Elements" is a two weeklong event beginning with a Sneak Peak Art Party on October 11th and a closing reception on October 25th. We will notify accepted artists on July 25th so submit NOW! Please note accepted artists will need to sign a release of liability form.

Project Greenville call for art

December 2nd, 3rd and 4th (JC Friday-Sunday), 2011 Project Greenville will be hosting the Winter Wonderland Weekend in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City. We are looking for photos, paintings, drawings, collage, sculptures or models depicting Jersey City winter/holiday times. An old photo of your kids making a snowman outside of the house, a painting of the Loews theater decked out for Santa's visit, a sketch of busy shoppers bustling along the snowy streets of the heights, etc. etc.....Think winter, thinks holidays, think Jersey City! Besides the exhibited artwork there will also be a childrens toy drive bin, a neighborhood raffle and hot cocoa and local treats. In the depths of winter we all yearn for signs of life.

Signs of change.

Breakthrough.

This show will attempt to encapsulate the experience of the world coming back alive.

This does not mean I am looking for literal images of "spring." Although these are most welcome, I would like to expand the idea to include all forms of "Emergence."

There are no limitations on medium, but all works must be able to be hung on the wall.

The artist will receive 60% of the sales price with the remaining 40% going to the gallery. PLEASE PRICE ACCORDINGLY!

ONCE ACCEPTED artists must drop off work by January 30th between the hours of 3:30pm and 7pm. If this window does not work for you other arrangements can be made on an individual basis.

Be sure to include your name, title, medium, dimensions, and price, as well as any other pertinent information with your submission.

call for art: cathedral art festival

 21^st Annual Cathedral Arts Festival – CALL FOR ART

The Cathedral Arts Festival, the largest and longest-running celebration of artists and the arts in Hudson County, proudly enters its third decade in 2010. For twenty years, the loyalty and creative gifts of our ever-growing pool of submitting artists, and the dedication and hard work of tireless and passionate art supporters, both behind the scenes and in the crowds, have helped to make Cathedral Arts Festival a treasured cultural institution in the county and a crown jewel in the cultural fabric that is historic, downtown Jersey City.  To miss it only brings a full year of regrets.

Our gallery venue is, itself, a work of art. The beautiful, 157-year-old sanctuary of Jersey City’s beloved Grace Church Van Vorst is the permanent home for this annual exhibition and festival.      Our traditional champagne gala will officially open the visual art gallery on Saturday, November 13^th and will remain open throughout the fall holiday season.  The festival will end with the closing of the gallery on Friday, December 3rd.

We now reach out to our local art community and beyond to find the artists and work that will be  CAF 21, and continue a two-decade tradition of creative excellence. Artwork in all media and encompassing all subject matter will be considered, including but not limited to painting, drawing, textiles, sculpture and photography.  All work is for sale with 60% of the sale going to the exhibiting artist and 40% to Grace Church Van Vorst.  As you consider your body of work, and what you’d like to contribute to the show, the curatorial team asks that all submissions be new to CAF and our gallery space, not recently exhibited locally, physically available to CAF from drop-off weekend through the close of the festival, and reasonably priced so that visitors to the gallery might be encouraged and able to purchase original art of exceptional quality.

Please submit up to six JPEGS (preferred) or prints of your work.  JPEGs/prints should be of good quality, true to color, and named so as to be easily identifiable to the artist and for content.  Please submit JPEGs that are 72 dpi.

For each submission please clearly note/provide the following:

·         Artist name and contact information (address, phone(s) and email)

·         Title of Work

·         Medium of Artwork

·         Dimensions (height x width x length)

·         Price

·         One-Page resume

 

We encourage all artists who can to submit work via email by forwarding all materials and info to: caf-art@gracevanvorst.org.  You may, however, mail your submission or drop it off at the church.   All submissions, however, must be received on or before September 10^th to be considered.
