Pro Arts is hosting another Art Eat-Up event on July 9th.  This is a great opportunity for artists and funding.  Proposals must be received by June 15th. Incomplete proposals will not be accepted

Pets-A-Palooza Party

Liberty Humane Society (235 Jersey City Boulevard):

Saturday and Sunday, June 26th and June 27th, the shelter will be turned into a fun- filled open house for people in the community to come with pets, families and friends alike. There will be family friendly activities, low-cost micro-chipping and nail clippings for cats and dogs, a mobile pet spa for dog grooming, professional behavior trainers to dispense free training tips, raffles and door prizes such as free pet grooming or free pet sitting/dog walking certificates.

As a special bonus, adoption fees will be waived for adult cats and dogs over one year of age during the weekend event. Kitten and puppy fees still apply. Adopters will also receive a free grooming or pet sitting/dog walking certificate.

The Open House runs on Saturday, June 26th from12:00pm to 8:00pm and Sunday, June 27th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm at the shelter (The shelter is located at 235 Jersey City Boulevard across the street from the Liberty Science Center on exit 14-B of the NJ Turnpike. )

Friday, June 18, 2010 from 8pm-midnight to celebrate the close of its 9^th season of arts programming in Jersey City.  The event will be held at Art House Productions’ art and performance space at Hamilton Square, 1 McWilliams Place, in downtown Jersey City (SE Corner of Hamilton Park).

For this year’s festivities, Art House is hosting an “Indoor Beach Blanket Karaoke Party,” and encouraging attendees to come dressed in their cheesiest beachwear for urban surf activities, including summer songs on karaoke, hula games, and raffle prizes.  All funds raised from the ART HOUSE SUMMER BLOWOUT will go toward operating support for Art House Productions’ 2010-2011 arts season.

Plausible Inventions is a collaborative installation by Nicolas Lampert and Colin Matthes that addresses a world engulfed in its own technology. Lampert and Matthes transform the gallery into an “inventors workshop” of low-tech machines, hybrid creatures, blueprints, drawings, notes, models, survival objects, and scrap leftovers that are both fantastical and commonplace.

Nicolas Lampert is a Milwaukee / Chicago interdisciplinary artist focusing on collage, graphic art, street art, collective art practices, and writing. Primarily, he is known for the series “machine-animal collages” that has been exhibited in many formats from the streets to zines to community art spaces to the MASS MoCA and the MOMA. www.machineanimalcollages.com. Colin Matthes is a Milwaukee artist who works across a range of media including drawing, sculpture, installation, public art, print, and collective projects. His work has been exhibited in galleries in New York, Denmark, Spain, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austria. This summer he will travel to Belgium to complete a residency at Scheld’apen. No Plastic Day is a world wide event intended to bring awareness of the over consumption of disposable plastic goods such as plastic bags and bottles. It is well known that there are floating islands of trash in most of the world's oceans. The huge amounts of plastic trash we all discard daily doesn't decompose, doesn't break down, and most of it is toxic to the animals that accidentally consume it. The current rate of plastic consumption is not sustainable and is starting to create a huge problem for marine life particularly. Fish eat toxic plastic bits. We catch the fish and eat the fish. Its only a matter of time before we've polluted our own food supplies with plastic trash.
What you can do on No Plastic Day - June 8, 2010

* No plastic bags - If you buy something from a store on No Plastic Day, bring your own bags. If you don't have any cloth or paper bags, just reuse the plastic bags you already have. They'll never biodegrade so you might as well reuse them if you already have them.
* No plastic bottles - Drink water from the tap or buy drinks in aluminum cans or glass bottles if you must.
* Limit your garbage - Almost everything you throw away is made of plastic. By limiting the garbage you create, you will reduce your plastic waste as well.
* Be creative - Everyone's situation is different and you will need to customize your own situation for No Plastic Day. Be creative. Reuse, recycle, and reduce your waste. Consider it a personal experiment

Soulful Sundays, one of our very first weekly events was a free pot luck style gathering for the community. People ate, laughed, and danced to the sounds of DJ Serenade. It was unfortunate when it ended, and have missed it ever since.

The JC record/CD riot

Jersey City has now hit the big time with the arrival of the Jersey City Record/CD Riot, a full-blown music collector's extravaganza. Hosted by the same folks who sponsor the infamous Brooklyn Record Riot, the show takes place THIS Saturday June 5th at Parlay Studios, 161 2nd Street in downtown JC, just a short walk from the Grove Street PATH . Over 30 dealers from NY/NJ/CT and beyond (Quebec for example) will descend with a wonderful variety of musical wares: rock, soul, jazz, country, hiphop and more. There will be vinyl for sale or trade (of course), full-length albums, 45s, compact discs (CDs), other musical memorabilia. Chat and make new friends with other musically-inclined folk, or even think about selling your own stuff at our next show. Show hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and admission is three dollars (ten dollars at 8am for early admission). Refreshments will be available.
