Pro Arts was founded in 1994 with a call to the artists in Jersey City and Hoboken to work together towards the promotion of the visual arts and advancement of the rights, welfare and economic well being of professional artists.

In celebration for the 20th year Anniversary, Pro Arts will be kicking off the year in Celebration with a Committee member show that will feature members who have volunteered their time to Pro Arts events in the last year. Please come and toast them. They make Pro Arts happen!

The Jersey City Artists Studio Tour is in it's 23rd year and is brought to you by Mayor Steven Fulop, the Jersey City Municipal Council, the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs, and Pro Arts.

The JCAST is one of the most anticipated cultural events in Jersey City. Hundreds of local artists participate in the Studio Tour, showcasing their work in mediums that span from visual artwork to performance pieces. Jersey City artists utilize the Studio Tour to introduce their body of work to the community, as thousands of visitors will tour private studios, community spaces, galleries, businesses and pop-up shops in support of the arts.

The Studio Tour creates collaborative opportunities for area businesses, arts organizations, and galleries to partner with artists in presenting their work to the public. Visitors are introduced to their local arts community in a supportive environment that encourages dialogue and interaction.

Pro Arts Art Eat-Up is a food, drink and entertainment event with a twist; for a small donation, guests eat a delicious meal, enjoy good company and musical entertainment, and vote for the most worthy art proposal on the menu that night. All proceeds collected go to the winning project, which will be displayed at the next Art Eat-Up event. It is a great way to network, meet new people, have fun and provide support for a local art project. Art Eat-Up is a grants process that gives an artist an unrestricted financial resource to realize a visual arts proposal, whether it is for one piece or an entire body of work. The grant may provide materials, equipment or even living expenses while the artist completes the project.
Art Eat-Up is grassroots funding at its best: donations for the community dinner go directly to funding art-makers whose proposals draw the most votes from the diners.
The process is purposely simple: Anyone can submit a proposal to Arts Eat-Up. Community participation in the grant selection process is the key: through this process we hope to stimulate and support experimental, critical and imaginative projects that may not be eligible for formal funding.
Art Eat-Up connects artists with artists, artists with the community, and the community with each other during Art Eat-Up dinners. It provides artists the opportunity to begin marketing their work before it is made. It creates momentum and awareness for art projects promoted during the event and possibly realized with the help of the Art-Eat-Up grant.
How it Works
Art Eat-Up event. Entrance will provide each person with one ballot and dinner with musical entertainment and beverages. Diners view a variety of proposed artworks and art projects. Each diner can cast one vote on the project they would like to see awarded a grant. After dinner, ballots will be counted and the art proposal receiving the most votes will be awarded the money raised through entrance donations (minus expenses and a portion to second and third prize).
The grant money is awarded to the winning artist or organization without limitations on how they use the grant money. Artists can take home the money that same evening. Documentation of the finalized project will be on display at the next Art Eat-Up, as well as other venues, including the web, informing the community of the progress and completion of each winning project.

Live Bait!   Eto Otitigbe

 What would you risk your neck for?  Live Bait! Is a public social sculpture by polymedia artist Eto Otitigbe.
 It consists of a set of life-sized rattraps with various kinds of bait.  The sculptures will be installed at Creative Grove on the
Grove Street Path plaza from Friday September 30th through  Saturday October 1st. 
Visitors are encouraged to risk life and limb for a chance at capturing the bait.

Art Eat-Up is a food, drink and entertainment event with a twist; for a small donation, guests eat a delicious meal, enjoy good company and musical entertainment, and vote for the most worthy art proposal on the menu that night. Pro Arts Jersey City announces its third Art Eat-Up

 Friday January 14th 7-10 pm

Art Eat Up is a food, drink and entertainment event with a twist; for a small donation, guests eat a delicious meal, enjoy good company, musical entertainment, receive a ballot, and vote for the most worthy art proposal presented that night. Art Eat Up provides an opportunity for up to ten artists to showcase their artwork, and build awareness of their vision, while vying for the Art Eat Up grant.
For $20, Guests will enjoy a delicious meal, beverage and ballot.
For $10, they receive beverage and ballot, and for $5 guests can simply cast a ballot.

Following a presentation by the artists of their proposals, diners cast their ballots and the art proposal receiving the most votes will be awarded the money raised that evening (minus expenses). Finalized projects will be on display at the following Art Eat Up and on the website.

The Art Eat Up grants process gives an artist or artist group an unrestricted financial resource to realize a visual arts proposal, whether it is for one piece or an entire body of work. 2010 Jersey City Artists’ Studio Tour Mixer

Jersey City Cultural Affairs and Pro Arts have joined together with JCM for a fun night of socializing, networking and acquiring information about the upcoming Jersey City Artists’ Studio Tour. On August 19th from 6 to 7:30 pm, come mingle with the who’s who among the arts community while sampling lite refreshments in JCM’s atrium.  Representation from Jersey City Cultural Affairs, Pro Arts and Central Avenue Special Improvement District will be readily available to answer all further questions about the Studio Tour and opportunities.  Art enthusiasts are encouraged to come out of your studios, grab a glass of wine and shake hands with Hudson’s County’s creative talent for one night.  If you would like to set an information table up for the night and inform people about what’s new, what’s happening within your organization please contact Michelle Loughlin:mloughlin@jerseycitymuseum.org

Art Eat Up 2nd edition

Come and Celebrate Pro Arts' second Art Eat Up is taking place Friday, July 9th, 7-10pm at Grace Church Van Vorst. We hope that many of you will attend this event and vote to support an artist's project. Our last event was fun and a great success as attendees collectively award a $640 grant,
despite an apocalyptic rain storm.

Tickets are a suggested $20 donation, which includes a delicious dinner prepared by Made With Love, dessert, a cup for wine and beer and one ballot to vote on an art project to receive funding. The first 60 people get the full dinner. For those who are just thirsty, it is $10 for ballot and a cup. Votes can be cast for $5 without entry.
