for the next council meeting, wednesday  Aug 31st starting at 6 pm.

We need to remind the council members that a large community is extremely happy with the music and events happening at this plaza.
The music ends at 8 or 9 pm.

Free summer movies in Riverview park

The movie will be shown on a big screen in Riverview-Fisk Park (Palisade Ave between Griffith & Bowers) Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and we will provide the movie and the popcorn (free!)  Come early and picnic and get to know your neighbors. 
The movie will start just after darkat approximately 8:15. The Washington Park Association and the Riverview Neighborhood Association are presenting this film and a free film each Friday in August.  See below for schedule and locations.

1st annual HDSID All About Downtown Street Fair

Celebrate Downtown Jersey City on Saturday, September 17 with the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District's First Annual "All About Downtown" Street Festival from 12pm-7pm!

Savor tasty treats from the hottest area food trucks while listening to a jam-packed music line-up and shopping handmade wares from over 40 local vendors, including the Jersey City Craft Mafia.

There will be plenty of activities for kids, including facepainting, storytelling and a bounce house. Join your neighbors for an afternoon that's ALL about Downtown Jersey City!

Art House Productions & Cassieopia are looking for artists to submit work for the 2011 Studio Tour in Downtown Jersey City. The theme of the show is "OLD SKOOL" (what inspires you?). This theme is meant to express the connection between old school art/artists and how they have impacted the new generation of artists, like you. What has been your source of inspiration? Express that idea into any and all pieces you chose to submit.

The deadline for submissions is August 19th, 2011. If your art is chosen for the 2011 Studio Tour, Art House Productions will contact you via email or phone number. Please be sure to submit 4-7 jpeg images along with your contact information and a small description about your art (not necessary).

JC Poetry Slam

FIRE IT UP! It's what we have been waiting for! The 2011 Jersey City Slam Team is going to unleash their talent for a special preview of what Boston has in store for them this year! Come out and support our team as they take down teams from New York, Philly and New Jersey for the title of best in the region!

Because we are expecting everyone to come out and support the team we are moving this slam to a special night for this... week only! SATURDAY, JULY 23 doors will open at 8:00 pm! We will also be showcasing the best of the best at ART HOUSE PRODUCTIONS, located at 1 McWilliams Place (right by Hamilton Park!).

Snacks, beverages and wonderful baked treats will be provided by Judy's Goodies!

Admission will be $5. As always, all proceeds go towards the JC Slam fund and sending our team to Boston where they will be representing us in the 2011 National Poetry Slam this August!

Creative Writing at the Jersey City Reservoir

Enjoy a FREE creative writing workshop with Rutgers University Creative Writing professor Laryssa Wirstiuk. Tap into your creative spirit and practice your writing skills at Jersey City's peaceful, picturesque oasis.

We'll be meeting at the northwest entrance by the skating rink. Please bring a notebook, a pen/pencil, and a folding chair. All levels and ages are welcome.

The band  Sleepy Wizard is performing at St Anne's feast

Sleepy Wizard was originally formed under a different name by founding members Tom Nadolski, DeMoose and Lou in a tight apartment in Hoboken, NJ. After some experimenting, the band was finally made complete with the addition of front man and pianist Julian. Since then, there has been no looking back.
