The Gala is a benefit fundraiser for Learning Community Charter School on April 29, 2011 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Beacon, Great room.  There will be a wine tasting, live jazz, fine food, luxury raffles and a silent art auction. Join us for fun and a great way to raise money for LCCS! Restoration Tour of the Beacon
The Beacon (4 Beacon Way): Saturday May 1st 11:00 am - 12:30
Historic Preservation Month, Metrovest Equities and the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy invite the public to tour the spectacular restoration of the Art Deco former Jersey City Medical Center.
The Beacon's own restoration consultant, Ulana Zakalak, will take you on a tour highlighting the new lobby, the restored Broadway corridor, the Rialto Theater, and the former lobby, which is now the billiards room, complete with the newly conserved Allen George Newman bas-relief, From Myth to Medicine. Mayor Frank Hague's office, has now been converted into the Hague Poker Room, also restored lobbies and the Roosevelt reading room.
$10/$7 for seniors and students. Meet at the new lobby of The Beacon.

spring benefit and silent auction LCCS
For Learning Community Charter School, the spring benefit gala and silent auction will be heldat The Beacon, Fri april 16, 6 - 8 pm.
LCCS is a unique and dynamic educational institution that is building strong academic success for hundreds of Jersey City children each year. In 1997, Learning Community was one of the state's first charter schools. Since then it has become the model of charter school success.
LCCS students are able to reach these impressive academic goals despite receiving less than 60% of funding traditional Jersey City districts receive.
Our overall budget was cut more than $700,000 last year.
The good news is that the William E. Simon Foundation is offering LCCS a grant that will match every dollar raised at the Gala and other fundraisers up to $250,000. So far, the school has raised $130,000 to meet this goal, from bake sales to bowl-a-thons. The Gala is one of the key ways we can do this.
