The Attic Ensemble announces additional auditions for a non-union production of "Crowns" a play with music by Regina Taylor, directed by Judith Moss, on Saturday, January 7th 1 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. at the Attic Ensemble, 83 Wayne St., Jersey City, NJ. Performances are 2/17-26, 2012. Rehearsals will be held in the evening with weekend rehearsals as needed.
The ladies in CROWNS come in all shapes and sizes. A company of three generations of women with "hattitude" will form the ensemble of CROWNS. All actresses must be experienced in harmony and gospel singing and must be able to move well, as there are significant dance passages in the show.
We are casting 3 females:
YOLANDA: 18-20's. (must be able to appear 15-18). Sassy but introverted, Yolanda keeps her feelings inside, except when she raps. Keenly observant, intelligent but reticent, her evolution to fully express herself is at the core of this story. Ultimately, must be charming, winning and exuberant.
VELMA. 30s. (African counter part : Oya - Orisha of storms - purple). Flashy and has a past, Velma now expresses herself in her vivid stories and glittery hats. Knows how to have fun, but is also capable of stormy weather.
MABEL. 50s (African counter part: Shango - Orisha of fire). The most conservative. Married a minister and always did the right thing. Has a genuine insight into human condition, but likes ladies to be ladies. She has a behavior code and believes in it - and you better believe in it too!
There are no appointments necessary; actors will be seen on a first come/first served basis. NO signups after 3:30 pm, please!
Bring pix & résumés, stapled together. Please prepare an a capella gospel selection (traditional or contemporary). Sides will be provided for cold readings at the audition and are posted on our website.

casting call for Downtown Urban Theater Festival
Rehearsals begin immediately, evenings and weekends. The show will take place Wednesday, Mar. 28 as part of the 2012 Downtown Urban Theater Festival at the HERE Arts Center in New York City.
We are casting:
MARCUS SALEM: 40s to 50s, husband to Rizalia and father of Luis, Luz and Leila. Quiet, generally stoic and feels cheated when he doesn’t have control. Asian (Filipino).
RIZALIA SALEM: 40s to 50s, wife of Marcus. Puts own needs side to pursue dream of successful family, questions happiness. Asian (Filipino).
LUZ SALEM: Late teens, early 20s. Down-to-earth girl genius consumed by emotions she tries to ignore. Asian (Filipino).
DIEGO CARBONELL: Mid 20s to early 30s. The Salem’s next-door neighbor. Warm, likable good guy who does everything to avoid hurting others. Hispanic/Latino.
AARON WILLIAMS: A detective, 30s or older. Any ethnicity.
PROSECUTOR: 30s or older. All-knowing, narrator type character who uses facts to manipulate others’ emotions while staying detached. Any ethnicity.
The following roles will most likely be doubled. Actors should audition for only one of the roles:
GISELE: Mid 20s to early 30s. Bold, independent woman not afraid of speaking her mind. Any ethnicity/ MIRA WOLDMICHAEL: A forensic examiner. Any ethnicity.
ABRAHAM: 40s to 50s, Rizalia’s older brother. Thick Filipino accent. Asian (Filipino) / MARTON RIVERA: Best friend of Marcus, in love with Rizalia. Any ethnicity.
ALEX SAMUELS: Either gender, mid 20s or older. Generally well-intentioned, but doesn’t care or isn’t aware of the things they say. Any ethnicity / DEFENDER. Willing to pull out all the stops to achieve courtroom goals. Any ethnicity.
The Judge and Reporter have already been cast.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Art House Productions, 1 McWilliams Pl., 6th floor, Jersey City, by Hamilton Park. Possibility for callbacks.

‘MURDER ON ICE’
Christine Goodman (prod.) is casting Murder on Ice, an original 1945 comedy/suspense set in an ice rink. Jack Halpin, dir. Rehearsals begin immediately, evenings and weekends. Performances run May 13-21 at Art House Productions in downtown Jersey City.

Seeking—Frank Roberts: late 40s, penny-pinching owner of Red River Ice Rink. Bobby Hatch: 20s-30s, brooding skater with a bad temper, “man with a past.” Must move well/dance. JoBell Martin: 20s, the star of the Sunshine Sparklers ice show. Must move well/dance. The Sunshine Sparklers: 3 females in their 20’s, must move well/dance. Benita Roberts: 30s, Frank’s wife and Manager of The Sunshine Sparklers. Smart and sassy, always gets what she wants. Old Pete: 65+, hard-working and kind. The Producer: 40-50s, snobbish and used to being pampered. Detective: 30s, classic gumshoe, dealing with an intense phobia. Males and Females: 18+, to play various characters. casting call: actors, director, accompanist for Galileo, the musical
Director- Must be passionate about the environment
Musical Director/Accompanist- must be classically trained, dynamic, and able to improvise between scenes. Must be able to attend some rehearsals and play all performances. (Small stipends available for directors)
Casting for the following roles:
Marina (Galileo‘s Mistress)- legit soprano
Senators, Clergyman, and Pope- all ranges, 30+, male or female
