Open Soul Sessions has turned one year old! We are so happy and thankful to all our performers for being a part of our wonderful journey!

JUNE 5th Open Soul Sessions features spotlight performer:
KAHLIL KHAN!

Kahlil Khan is a member of Movement In Motion, an artist & activist collective that disseminates information through cultural mediums. The mysterious St. Louis born rapper is best known for his scathing political commentary and fearless confrontation of social ills. He publishes and distributes his own much sought after chapbooks, and is currently working on his debut album, a collaborative effort that includes such producing teams as The Hard Wash. www.movementinmotion.org

Open Book segment author:
HOZEH

Hozeh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Lafayette College and a Master of Arts in Writing Studies from St. Joseph’s University. He’s taught in elementary and middle schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Hozeh has performed in New York and in Philadelphia as a rapper and as a spoken word artist. In the early nineties, he won Temple University’s First Annual Poetry Slam. Recently, Hozeh has won the 2007 Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers, conducted literary readings and lectured at Wagner College on creative and expository writing, and won the Robertson-Shonubi Scholarship to attend the New York State Summer Writers Institute. Hozeh has traveled in the Caribbean and enjoys cooking, exercising, and listening to seventy’s Rock and R&B.

Hey everyone, once a month we at Black Waxx host a community event (which are now filming) called Open Soul Sessions. Which has an open mic and open book segment. Run with donations we are looking for people who want to perform and join the audience!

open soul sessions, feb 6th

Open Soul Sessions is a once a month arts salon granted to inspire great discussion and experiences.

Artists of all mediums are encouraged to come out and share their talents amongst the crowd.

Painters, musicians, singers, theorists, journalist, writers, instrumentalists, rappers, lyricists, poets, actors, spoken word artists, photographers... contact us if you would like to take one of our 4-5 minute spots!

The highlight of our night is for performers who sign up and share ONE piece of work (or the equivalent of 4-5 minutes worth of work) while receiving FEEDBACK from the audience.

Performances, feedback and networking are what our night includes.

The evening is VIDEOTAPED, if you have questions or concerns about this email us to ask about our policy agreement!

We DON'T serve alcohol or allow smoking.

We DO accept performers at any age of their creative development. If your under 18 bring your parent along.
